Faye D’Souza knows she can change the world

The journalist we trust brings her impeccable credentials to Levi’s #ISHAPEMYWORLD initiative

There’s one Instagram account that we have to check in on every day. No, it’s not a meme page, and it’s not your ex’s new girlfriend. It’s the clearest voice of logic and reason on the Indian internet, that of journalist Faye D’Souza.

When political news seems more like saas-bahu dramas and economic developments leave your temples pounding, D’Souza is the Zandu balm for our collective headaches. The no-nonsense face of #realnews joins the incredible line-up of all-stars fronting the sixth edition of Levi’s #ISHAPEMYWORLD initiative. Conceptualised in 2017, the #ISHAPEMYWORLD platform introduces us to a squad of female icons to inspire a new generation of women with their stories.

At the age of 18, Faye D’Souza felt the ‘calling’, as she puts it. “There was some amazing work happening in journalism, and I just felt, this is what I want to do with my life,” she says. The accolades followed and she rose up the ranks, eventually becoming the Executive Editor and face of Mirror Now.

At the height of her success, D’Souza did the unthinkable — she quit to launch her own company and use the internet as a platform to metabolise the news for young people. “The good old method of just telling you what happened — no opinion, no outrage, no activism — is perhaps what young people need the most.”

Sharper than a paper cut and transparent in her operating style, D’Souza is now a daily habit for an audience of over 1 million highly engaged viewers, who admire her grit and trust that she’s telling them the truth.

Admitting that her industry today lacks dignity, Faye D’Souza reveals her ambition. “I want to be remembered as one of the good ones, someone who tried to do the right thing. You cannot wake up in the morning and do this job without believing that you can change the world, at least some small part of it.”
