Twinkle Khanna’s secret formula to staying relevant
This Women’s Day, Coach celebrates the power of reinvention through their iconic Women We love campaign
Twinkle Khanna began her career in 1989, not by delivering lines to the camera, but delivering pomfret in a truck. Fortunately for everyone, she was a poor employee. “I worked as a delivery girl for my grand-aunt, Mrs Machiwala. I was unceremoniously chucked out in less than two weeks from this prestigious post, due to throwing up numerous times in our malodorous seafood truck,” she recalls.
Despite this fishy business, Khanna managed to adapt and evolve, launching herself into a new career nearly every decade. A narrative that becomes especially relevant when research shows that between 40 million and 160 million women globally may need to transition between occupations by 2030, often into higher-skilled roles.
It’s this power of reinvention and transformation that is being celebrated by Coach through their annual Women’s Day campaign — Women We Love. Honouring women who’ve left their mark and paved the path for others to follow, Women We Love encourages us to have the courage to be real, face our failures, celebrate our successes. The brand celebrates women who move to their own rhythm, being fiercely themselves and bold enough to follow their own path.
So, what is the fish delivery girl/ actor/ writer/ digital entrepreneur’s secret formula to reinventing herself and staying relevant? Khanna says, “It starts with having the courage to be true to who you are, and the unique skills you’re holding as aces in your deck.” Adding, “I failed once spectacularly in life. It’s very liberating to find that if you crack the first joke, the world will laugh with you. If I had known this when I was younger, I would have had the bikini body and the brains.”
