The makeup collection your friends will text you about
You’ll want to keep it forever
There was a time before we hoarded nude lipsticks like Pokémon cards, when words like ‘undertones’ and ‘texture’ weren’t part of our vocabulary. Back then, we would longingly watch our mothers apply makeup, drinking in the heady sweetness of her lipstick and dreaming of the day we’d finally be allowed to reach into her makeup pouch and claim our favourite. Makeup was a keepsake you displayed proudly on your dressing table or whipped out for a quick touch-up like a secret weapon.
It was this emotion, the idea that makeup should feel valuable again, that led Katrina Kaif, the actor and co-founder of Kay Beauty, to call Falguni Shane Peacock. This is the brand’s first major collaboration since its 2019 launch, and honestly, who better to partner with than the designer duo famous for their meticulous craftsmanship and jaw-dropping maximalist gowns.
“When she called us with this idea we couldn’t say no,” Falguni Peacock said at the launch event. Working on the collection together felt natural—Kaif has been wearing their creations at important moments throughout her career and they have built a strong relationship over the years. As Kaif puts it, “This collection draws from the essence of their work; the richness of their colours, the way their textiles reflect light, and the glamour they create.”
The limited-edition Kay Beauty X Falguni Shane Peacock collection includes two face palettes (with a highlighter, bronzer, and both shimmer and matte blushes), and 12 matte bullet lipsticks with names like, Champagne Brocade (a mauve-pink nude shade that Katrina recommends), Ruby Banarasi (a classic red) and Mulberry Cashmere (a moody wine for deeper skin tones). The interpretation of these traditional Indian textiles comes through in the diffused sheen and richness of the shades.
And true to the Kay Beauty ethos, the shades were created keeping in mind different skin tones and occasions. Kaif explains, “Every shade was chosen to be versatile and easy to wear—whether on its own or layered—so the products fit seamlessly into daily routines.”
The matte lipsticks have full-coverage and sit comfortably on your lips, while the shades in the face palette can be easily amped up or pared down. Despite the names that suggest occasion and ceremony, the collection is designed to be as practical as you need it to be, and not something you would only pull out for the next wedding
Falguni Shane Peacock add, “We consciously chose longevity over trendiness. Trends come and go, but good design and a good product endure.
What gives the collection the sense of a precious treasure is the packaging that has Gatsby era-inspired Art Deco motifs on gold compact cases and lipsticks. Falguni Shane Peacock explain their vision, “We wanted it to feel sensory and collectible—almost like owning a small piece of couture. It’s designed to be held, admired, and kept.”
Tweak asked Katrina Kaif to take us through the collection, and she shared not just her favourite picks and easy tips to use them (her fitness routine is a lot more intense), but also why she’s always believed good skincare trumps everything.
Tweak: You have some great hacks on how to make your makeup multitask. Any tips on how to do that with the Kay Beauty x Falguni Shane Peacock face palette?
Katrina Kaif: I like to think of the face palette as something you can adapt to your mood and moment. One simple tip is to use your fingers for the highlighter first. It melts into the skin that way and creates a natural, lit-from-within glow. You can then lightly layer the blush or bronzer on top, or even use them individually, depending on how defined or soft you want the look to feel.
T: What’s your go-to red carpet look, and which products would you use from this collection to recreate it?
KK: My go-to red carpet look is always quite refined and understated. I like skin to look even, luminous and well cared for, with softly defined eyes and a strong but comfortable lip.
From this collection, I’d use the face palette to bring warmth and glow to the skin, focusing on subtle sculpting rather than anything heavy. I’d finish with one of the matte lipsticks, especially our hero shade Champagne Brocade—it’s a lovely pinkish nude that gives a polished, matte finish whilst still feeling hydrating on your lips.
T: You’ve worked with some of the best makeup artists in the world and you’ve spent a lot of time researching makeup while building Kay Beauty. What is your ride-or-die makeup tip?
KK: That makeup has to truly support the skin. When your base feels comfortable, everything sits better, lasts longer and looks more effortless. That understanding has stayed with me, and it’s something I’ve carried into how I approach makeup today. Whether it’s choosing formulas that feel gentle, taking the time to prep properly, or keeping your routine simple and intentional.
T: What’s a self-care ritual that has been passed down to you by your mother?
KK: My mother always emphasized consistency and care. She believed in keeping things uncomplicated: cleansing the skin gently, staying well hydrated, and giving your skin time to breathe.
That idea of doing small things regularly, rather than overdoing it occasionally, has stayed with me and continues to shape how I think about both beauty and self-care.
T: How has your idea of beauty evolved over the years?
KK: My idea of beauty has evolved with experience and time. Being exposed to different worlds through my work helped me understand early on that beauty is personal and ever-changing. That perspective shaped how I see makeup even today: not as something that follows rules, but as something that should feel intuitive and lived-in.
T: The foundation of great makeup lies in good skincare. What’s a skincare step you would never skip?
KK: Hydration. Keeping the skin well moisturised creates the perfect base for makeup and helps everything sit and wear better throughout the day.
