Expert vs Amateur: How to get the perfect eyeliner
What happens when a makeup pro coaches a newbie
The world is divided into two kinds of people. The kind that have mastered the art of winged eyeliner. They wake up two hours early to solve geometry equations on their faces. Oops, I mean contouring. They can give you a runway makeover in their sleep. And they also know how to pronounce Yves Saint Laurent and Hermès. The other kind of people can list all the makeup they ever carry on their finger tip: a lip balm. An eyelash curler is nothing but a torture device for them and they can’t tell the difference between foundation and concealer.
In our ongoing video series: Expert vs Amateur, the two kinds collide in a rather unceremonious (for the noob) challenge. We pit the best of the two worlds against each other for a makeup exercise that invariably results in some of the best comedy you’ve seen online.
In this video, our professional makeup artist Mausam Gandhi has been tasked with (blindly) tutoring our beauty noob, lifestyle editor Arundhati Chatterjee. Gandhi is excited to teach Chatterjee what she thinks are some of the “basic eye makeup tricks for every occasion”. Our noob of course, takes the winged eyeliner challenge literally, and turns it into an art exam. On a scale of 1 to 10, our noob has also given herself a 7.5. Gandhi has, understandably, been left speechless. We dare you to suffer alongside Gandhi while controlling your laughter. Good luck — you’ll need it.
