Do you feel personally targeted by the baby chefs on Instagram?
These pocket-sized pastry chefs are shaming and entertaining us in equal measure
There is strong reason to believe that the Mummy Mission Squad has concocted a brand new plan to shame their adult children about their lack of basic human skills, again. Also, it must be noted that their accomplices are rather squish-worthy – baby chefs.
Just when we were revelling in our ability to master banana bread after 17 failed, burnt, and some slimy attempts, our Instagram feed launched towards us a series of diaper-clad overachievers. What even happened to ‘children shouldn’t be allowed to handle hot objects and kitchen equipment’? (“Evolution. That’s what happened,” echoes my mother’s voice inside my head.)
Was it just me who was deemed fit to handle only jhaadus and pocchas while growing up?
“I am 25 and my mother still doesn’t let me into the kitchen because she fears I’m going to burn the house down and waste our lockdown supplies,” confesses a colleague, speaking for all us bhartiya millennials.
Anyway, the reality of modern-day parenting is salt shaker-sized master chefs cooking up a storm, who’ve probably whipped up three loaves of too-pretty-to-eat garden foccacia while I’ve been hangry ranting (There you go, I do have things in common with toddlers – hunger-induced wailing).
But my lockdown mantra is spray painting silver linings even during the gloomiest of days, so what I am going to do is get my bum off the bed and stalk these baby chefs to get some social distancing menu inspiration. I suggest you do the same.
6 baby chefs to follow on Instagram
Kobe Eats (@kobe_yn)
Lesson number one – are you even cooking if you aren’t stuffing your face with fistfuls of cheese?
Chef Kobe is now an Instagram sensation, and all you need to do is watch a video or two to understand why.
From pasta salads and pizzas to s’mores and M&M cookies – there is no stopping him.
Also, we believe that the occasional Hawaiian shirt, and the chefs hat, which is a literal cherry on top, might have a little something to do with the little chef’s popularity.
Bodhi Rye Cheung (@bodhi.bites)
Chef Kelvin Cheung’s offspring isn’t just following in his footsteps, but rocketing past him when it comes to Insta fame.
Little Bodhi Rye, with his block-printed bandanas is cracking open eggs like a pro, and in the process, breaking our hearts .
Mother Indias must note that this child was allowed to handle truffles. Can we at least attempt getting within three feet of your prized masala box?
Chef Zanu (@chefchinuvaze)
Much like Cheung, chef Chinu Vaze too seems to have found her very own helper elf right at home.
From wholesome laadoo making sessions with grandma and breaking into spontaneous singing to some super sassy mic drops – chef Zanu will keep you hooked and how.
Mummy’s Little Chef (@mummyslittlechef)
This baby chef is playing the best sous-chef to her mummy, and helping her fellow pint-sized geniuses do the same.
From learning basics like grating cheese to preparing wholesome breakfasts, this is one account you have to share with your toddler, in the hope of a future when all you will have to do is put your feet up and relax, while your little one will be busy meal prepping.
Bringing up babe (@bringingupbabe)
This little one has special segments called Tasty Tuesdays to help motivate you to stop eating cup noodles.
Not just a food influencer, baby Babe’s Instagram is all kinds of adorable and helpful (think puzzles, fun DIYs, and engaging games to play with children).
Lyric Sanaa (@lyric_sanaa310)
Chef Riri is a meticulous Martha Stewart in the making. She begins her sessions with choosing from her array of aprons, and ends with efficiently putting the apron back in place.
What is especially great about this baby chef are the captions that accompany her videos – the captions offer great advice to new moms on how to use cooking as a learning tool for children. The account also shares ways in which to keep your kid engaged (and learning) with a wide range of activities — like object transfer, art activities and more.
