Working out with Jacqueline Fernandez’s trainer: Radhika Karle
Get set to give up those bhajiyas — or use them as motivation
Watching fitness videos is fun. Observing someone sweat through 7 burpees in a row, contort into pretzel-like shapes as they challenge their flexibility through yoga and kick-box their way through their passive aggression is even more fun when I’m lying on my bed, shovelling Doritos in my mouth. But then I look at Jacqueline Fernandez’s abs and I’m (slightly) ashamed of myself for not even trying to get fit.
Of course, reaching those kinds of fitness levels involves rigorous daily workouts, sacrificing your favourite foods and possibly a trainer who will whip your lard ass into shape. Lucky for you we have help at hand — and it won’t cost you your kidney. We enlisted nutritionist and Pilates Master Trainer, aka Jacqueline Fernandez’s trainer — Radhika Karle to show you the moves to get your workout regimen on track. She puts comedian Sonali Thakker through the paces — watching the video will give you an accurate idea as to what to expect when you’re grunting and swearing through the Pilates-heavy workout, yourself.
If you’re wondering why everything seems like it’s in ‘slow motion in Pilates’, like Thakker did, Karle has the answer — “because the slower you go, it equates to more control, which means better muscle balance”.
Watch Karle show the comedian how to tackle a range of exercises. From a warm up that includes a roll-up, roll-down, rotation and curls to a workout consisting of bridging, the roll-up, side lying legwork, kicks, single leg kicks and the hardest, and most rewarding one — the Pilates pushup. Try the moves and let us know if you managed to keep up or like Thakker were distracted by the perfect selfie position.
