Potty training: 12 quirky planters that will soon find their way into all your Instagram photos
How else would you get a flamingo, elephant and sher in the same room?
Raise your hand if you channelled all the money you used to spend on overpriced cocktails and Uber’s surge pricing into home decor. First hitting the bedroom to turn it into a cosy cocoon, decluttering forgotten kitchen shelves, then hunting down multitasking pieces that were functional but not boring.
As more and more colour started to flow into our living space, our eyes fell on the plastic pots housing our plant babies.
We can totally relate to the rush of Pinterest inspiration-driven plant purchases that are now accumulating in a corner of your house. Houseplants are the best interior decor accessories for lazy people. They can serve as sasta air purifiers, make great showpieces, power up your vastu and create a calming environment for you to destress and unwind after a long day.
We wanted to rehome them into quirky planters that would serve their function but also add some personality to the room, each conversation-starting decor pieces in their own right. Spending a bit more on one of these is meeting two targets in one shot, because they’re truly works of art you can show off with pride.
Given that interior design and decor can influence our mood with the right colours in the right places, sunlight, textures and textiles, if you have some money to spend, why not invest it in the space we’re occupying the most right now?
Quirky planters to make your green thumb (and heart) happy
Pinky The Flamingo Metal Planter It’s so hard to pick a favourite from the Freedom Tree planters. Daschy the Daschund came in a close second. Pinky the Flamingo takes the cake. We may be biased. After all, we do have Pinkesh the flamingo as a teammate at Tweak. This quirky planter is made of metal and large enough for your bigger plants. Make Pinky an accent to your living room or a desktop buddy to liven up your WFH space. Not So Perfect Ceramic Planter We have to disagree, this slightly wonky planter by The Wishing Tree is pretty perfect. The greyish-green is a lovely colour and the glaze makes it glisten every time the light hits the surface. The slight bumps, lumps and imperfections feel like we’re running our hand along our thigh. And we love it *adds to basket* Eco Bottle Planter Taking inspiration from your school science experiment kits, Econiture’s quirky planters come in four colours. We have a particular love for this cheery shade of yellow. This is definitely more fun than functional, but what’s unique about these planters is that they’re made of post-consumer plastic waste. Rivaayat Terracotta Face Planter The facial expression of the Rivaayat planter is just so peaceful and calming, you’ll love having it in your line of sight. Made of terracotta, the lack of additional features, the earthy colour contrasting with the green of your plant, all give it a minimalist vibe. Ironlog Planter The clean wood against the metal and the greenery of a plant… this planter hits all the right spots. Part grunge and part finesse, the colour of the black metal against the lighter brown itself is so eye-catching. Rathik Glazed Hanging Planter If you’re running out of space on your countertops for new plant babies then take to the sky. Well, the ceiling in this case. We love all things Fabindia and this planter is no different. They write that this ceramic planter is brown, but with hints of a deep blue and grey and little speckles, plus the glaze makes it iridescent. Sher Planter With the stoneware planter from Nicobar, you can get your very own piece of The Jungle Book home. There’s no Baloo or Bagheera, but a pretty perfect Sher Khan. The planter has just a splash of colour to it, which against the rest of the black and white, is very Nicobar-esque. Berry Circular Planter We love that these planters come in different sizes that you can mix and match to create your own wall art. Grey and deep red is not a colour combination we’d usually go for but Restory makes it work beautifully. Magnetic Hydroponic Planter These handmade and hand-painted quirky planers from Lazy Gardner are truly genius. They come in three colours and are perfect for those wanting to bring some greenery to liven up their kitchen decor. Just slap it onto your fridge and you’re done. They’ve even got a helpful guide on how to propagate plant cuttings for the hydroponic planter. Eli Yellow Handcrafted Ceramic Planter Please excuse us. We can’t get over how cute this elephant planter is by EitherOrr. The name, the colours, those eyebrows. What’s not to love? Keep a pair together as accents in the living room or as a standalone centrepiece for your side table. Eli works either way. Art Deco Planter By now you’ve probably seen a lot of fancy pots and planters on stands of all lengths and sizes all over the internet. Those are lovely too, but we prefer this one by Mason Home for the line engravings. It’s simple in design, so to speak, but combined with the sheen of the gold and the colours of the plant you add, it’s just more elevated in our opinion and a great addition to any table top. Woven Pot Planter Another great pick for people who like the planters on stands. This one comes in three sizes and is made of woven seagrass which adds to the charm. Because of the material, you will have to be mindful to not water a plant directly into it. Place your choice of pot inside this planter, remove it when you need to water your plants and let the water drain before you move it back in. |
